The new system is based on PostgreSQL, a free relational database, with the UI written in Tcl/Tk, a free programming language with GUI extensions. Works slick. There are five stations in the labs constantly connected through the network to the server/database, which can also be accessed from staff computers. We've been quite pleased with the performance/reliability of PostgreSQL and the flexibility of Tcl/Tk -- the "free" in freeware in this case is more about your freedom to do what you want than about price. Feel "free" to mail me off-list if you want more info. bb > --- Forwarded Message from egarc <[log in to unmask]> --- > >>Date: Wed, 03 Mar 1999 12:07:37 -0600 >>From: egarc <[log in to unmask]> >>Subject: Circulation Software? >>To: "[log in to unmask]" <[log in to unmask]> > > We are considering updating our circulation system from a DOS-based to a > windows-based system.
