GET OUTSIDE WITH US THIS WEEKEND!!!

Cabin and Trail leads lots and lots of hikes, cabin overnights, and assorted shenanigans even in the winter! And you can borrow any and all winter gear that you might need - from warm layers to zero degree sleeping bags to snowshoes - for FREE!!!! (Just ask!)

If you'd like to get outside this weekend, sign up for any of the trips below by either completing the linked google form or blitzing the email provided with your dietary restrictions and shoe size! As always, blitz the leaders with any and all questions!


This week, we've marked beginner-friendly trips with (sneaky)(purple)(parenthetical)(parentheses)!

FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY What: (Firebuild!)  
When: 3:30-5:00pm
Why: To warm our cold and frozen Week 5 souls. And also because it's a heeler requirement.
Level : 0 (in hiking, maybe like a 3.5 in firebuilding because snow is wet)

SATURDAY SATURDAY SATURDAY What: (Mt.) (Kearsarge) (Loop!)
When: 9AM–1PM
Why: this is a fun, relaxed, 3-mile loop hike with some great views!
Level : 2
Leaders: Henry Burns and Dylan Davis
Cost: FREE!
Gear: Warm layers (non-cotton), puffy jackets, mitts, hiking shoes. All of this can be borrowed from DOR for free!

SATURDAY SATURDAY SATURDAY What: (Mt) (Ascutney) (Hike)
When: 8am-2pm February 2, 2019
Why: Saturday has double digits AND sunshine! Get your winter vitamin D. Plus you'll need a reboot after midterms. Plus we'll have snacks. Plus if you really need to do more work we'll be back by early afternoon!
Level : 3
Leaders: Emma Doherty and Elijah Laird
Cost: FREE
Gear: The gear required for this trip is hiking shoes/good walking shoes, hiking/rain pants, puffy/fleece, so many layers, micro spikes, gloves, hat, balaclava, water/wind shell, and you can borrow any of these except for shoes from
the DOC!

SATURDAY SATURDAY SATURDAY What: Liberty and Flume
When: 8am-6pm
Why: a wise man named Patrick Henry once said something along the lines of, "Give me liberty or give me flume." Well, Patrick, it's your lucky day because we're gonna have both. Also, Bon Iver has a lovely little diddy called "Flume" that we most certainly will be listening to. Also, the butt sliding will be unparalleled.
Level : 4.5–decently strenuous and snowy!
Leaders: Abby Wilson and Rachel Kent
Cost: free!
Gear: snow pants, snow shoes, microspikes, overboots, several layers, puffy coats, thick gloves/mittens, hats. All of these can be borrowed from DOR!

SATURDAY SATURDAY SATURDAY What: Mount Madison (+Adams, maybe!)
When: 7am-5pm (nice early start, dw there's coffee)
Why: Come hike in the absolutely beautiful Presidential Range on a gorgeous winter day. This hike is challenging but the spectacular views make it completely worthwhile! Also the snacks will be tasty. And the trip is FREEEEE!
Level : 5 (previous winter hiking experience required)
Leaders: Anna Ellis '19 and Catherine Golubovsky '22
Cost: FREE YAY
Gear: Hikers will need a daypack, hiking boots, two bottles of water, a warm hat/gloves, and wicking layers. A more specific packing list will be provided to those who officially sign up for the hike. You can borrow all hiking gear for free from Dartmouth Outdoor Rentals- just let us know what you need!

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY What: (CnT) (Snow) (Sculpture) (Shift)
When: Sunday, Feb. 2: 10 am - 12 pm (but feel free to show up earlier/stay later)!
Why: Join CnT friends to help continue a Winter Carnival tradition! Meet at the center of the Green!
Level : 0

Gear: Warm clothes, gloves, hat

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY What: (Wright's) (Mountain) (Hike) 
When: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Why: A fun, beautiful beginner hike! The wonderful Osman Khan will be heeling if that's not convincing enough
Level : 2 (1.6 miles roundtrip!)
Leaders: Kevin Donohue + Osman Khan
Gear: warm layers, waterproof boots, snowshoes (all of which you can borrow! For free!)

A note about levels....

Level 1: Short, easy, super-beginner friendly hikes at a leisurely pace with relatively little elevation gain. Think Gile sunsikes and trips to Mink Brook!
Level 2: Slightly longer but still beginner friendly hikes with slight elevation gain, typically half day trips! Think Holt's Ledge or Moose Mountain!
Level 3: Longer trips with moderate elevation gain and mileages! Think Smarts and Cube!
Level 4: Longer trips with more significant elevation gain and mileages! Think Franc Ridge or the Kinsmans!
Level 5: Trips with the most significant elevation gain and mileages! Think Madison, Adams, and Washington!
