Subject: [UVB] A week on Cape May Point

My annual week on the point was better than expected based on weather forecasts and poor wind direction. But it was a good week of trapping and banding.

Sharp-shinned - 15
Coopers - 94
Retails - 4
Merlin - 6
Peregrines - 3

Song birds of note in great volume:
2 huge kestrel flights along with their prey dragon flies. Kestrels are are hard to catch with dragon flies flying and crickets in the grass!
Hundreds of Ospreys everyday...
Flickers in the thousands
Phoebes in the hundreds
Tree Swallows in the thousands, perhaps way more…and other species mixed in..

Monarchs, while plentiful, nothing like years ago, but there were many at times…which was good to see improving numbers.
