On a bike ride this afternoon, I was brought up short by what sounded exactly like a pig – but the sound was coming from a tree.  The call was repeated for quite some time before the bird finally flew, and I got a good look – it was a Common Raven.  I’ve heard a huge variety of raven vocalizations before (all manner of hoarse croaks, guttural groans, petulant nasal complaints, clicks, etc.), but this vocalization was a new one on me.
