Just a couple of reminders and some specifics about the Mascoma Chapter field trip in Orford on Saturday. As George Clark posted recently, carpoolers from the Hanover/Norwich area will be leaving from the Ledyard Bridge parking lot at 6:30. The bird walk will start at the Orford Conservation Land, also known as the Richmond Land, an Upper Valley Land Trust site managed by the Orford Conservation Commission. This spot is located 1 mile north of Bridge Street (Samuel Morey Bridge between Fairlee, Vt. and Orford) on Route 10. Look for the stone marker and kiosk on the left. Participants may park in the field or the small parking area by the kiosk. The trails at the Richmond Land are somewhat uneven, especially along the Jacobs Brook outlet, so appropriate footwear is recommended. The trails are also likely to be wet. We will explore this area completely, looking for lingering breeding birds and hoping for some fall migrants. From the Richmond Land, we will drive to Boat Landing Road, south of Bridge St. on Route 10, bird this spot a bit, then carpool to Reed’s Marsh. Finally, if time allows, birders can also check out Tullando Farm. Bring binoculars and spotting scopes if you like, but at least two scopes will be available to share.        Jeff
