Please join us on Monday evening, February 12 for the next installment of the Mascoma Chapter's "Nature Talk Series." Dr. Taber Allison will discuss the impact of wind energy turbine farms on bird populations. The presentation begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Mayer Room of Hanover's Howe Library.

Wind turbines are seen as one of the best available technologies for carbon emission-free power generation, but the siting and operation of wind energy projects can have negative impacts on wildlife, particularly birds and bats.

For nearly two decades, Dr. Taber Allison has been studying the impacts of wind energy on wildlife and developing solutions to minimize those conflicts. Most recently it has been at the American Wind and Wildlife Institute (AWWI) where he is Director of Research. Previously he led Massachusetts Audubon’s Conservation Science Division and oversaw its site evaluation of the Cape Wind Project.

Dr. Allison will share his considerable experience regarding what is known about the impact of wind projects on wildlife and what remains to be learned.
