A couple of days ago, a single ruffed grouse pecking around the crabapple
tree. Have not seen them
"tight-rope walking" the branches yet this season.

3:00 pm this afternoon 3 turkeys - drenched and somewhat ungainly in the
unevenly deep snow - nope, make that 4 - enthusiastically working over
the cinnamon fern seed heads - oh, another makes 5, moving on to forage
around the woodpile and 7 more single-filing up the path where, with
minimal scuffling, they all glean the leavings under the crabapple tree
bird feeder not 6 ft. from the window -- an even dozen wild turkeys last
seen slip-sliding away down the icy driveway and back into the woods.
