Hi Lisa;

I am the Director of Marketing at Robotel Inc., a developer of language teaching platforms.

Depending on how you want to approach the issue of providing the “missing multimedia lesson materials” for your Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and Italian courses, we have a solution that may be of some interest.

Our SmartClass+ language teaching platform supports a blend of self-study and classroom activities.    I don’t think you need the “classroom” part, but the self-study capabilities have been used by several clients to supplement their other course materials.    We call the self-study application the MAD – Media Activities Dashboard.

The MAD does not provide a library of language-specific lessons, but rather provides a set of templates that instructors can use to build their own listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities.  Activities can be authored for all target languages.

There are both audio and video recording templates, eight different types of quizzes, several writing activities, and a relatively new set of pronunciation exercises that use text-to-speech and voice recognition technology to assess student recordings.    The pronunciation exercises and the quizzes all have auto-assessment and grading support, so students can immediately track their own progress without any intervention from an instructor or tutor.

If this sounds like it may be of some interest, we have just added a Free 60-day Trial capability for the MAD on our website, www.robotel.com. Also, we would be happy to organize a live on-line demonstration for you and your staff.

Regards……………..Gerry

Hi Everybody:

I am a Tutor Coordinator in ESOL who also works with world language students in the language lab at Richland College.  I have been asked to find language learning programssuch as Mango, Pronunciator, and Rosetta Stone (all of which we already have used) that could be used when a foreign language textbook does NOT have an online component.  This happens the most often with the lesser taught languages like Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and Italian.  If you have any suggestions plus vendor contact info, I would be most grateful.  Many thanks ahead for your response.

Best,
