* Documentary and Discussion (with ice cream): "Zero Days" *

The Hopkins Center will be screening “Zero Days” on Tuesday, July 18 at
7:00 p.m. Touted as a “non-fiction thriller” this film explores malware
and cyber warfare. 

Immediately following the film, Dartmouth’s Institute for Security
Technology and Society (ISTS) Director, Professor Sean Smith, will lead
a post-screening discussion of malware (Stuxnet) and the future of
cybersecurity in the Hop Garage. Bring your questions and a good
appetite as ice cream sundaes will be provided to the first 75 attendees.

* Be a WISP Peer Mentor Coordinator *

Apply by July 21!

The WISP Peer Mentor Program (PMP) is overseen by two Peer Mentor
Coordinators, one senior and one junior. As Rachel Patel ’17 has
graduated, WISP seeks a ’19 woman to partner with Kimberly Ma '18 as the
2017-2018 WISP Peer Mentor Coordinator team. The ’19 Peer Mentor
Coordinator would then serve as the senior coordinator the following
year.

Kimberly Ma ’18, will be on campus in fall, winter and spring. The ’19
PMP Coordinator will need to be on campus this summer and at least fall
term. This is a paid position. Hours are flexible but co-coordinators
share roughly 5 - 10 hours per week, depending on activities term. 

Qualifications:
•	Good interpersonal communication and organizational skills
•	Commitment to the mission of the program: to develop strong peer
support among women in science, and to directly support the journey of
women in science
•	Energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to work both independently and
cooperatively

Responsibilities:
•	Recruiting mentors and mentees for peer mentor program (beginning
summer term)
•	Matching mentors to mentees & manage database
•	Working with Co-coordinator and WISP Advisor to design and to plan
activities that support mission of the program (about 2-4 per term)
•	Maintaining communication & troubleshoots problems

* Upcoming deadline for UGAR research grants *

UGAR offers funding for undergraduate students conducting full-time
leave term research as well as expenses directly related to honors
thesis projects. The Wednesday, July 19 deadline is for research that
will occur during the fall term of 2017.

* Greenland's Melting Ice Sheet has Interesting Ecosystem *

Professor Ross Virginia, Director of the Institute of Arctic Studies at
Dartmouth, commented in a recent Popular Science article about the
interesting ecosystem in Greenland’s ice sheet. To read more, see the

* Highway Salt is Polluting Our Lakes *

Flora Krivak-Tetley, Ph.D. student in Biology, recently published work
in Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences supporting the
negative impact of road salt on fresh water lakes. Lakes in both Vermont
