Dear Jacob,

Our LRC has transitioned from installing software locally to managing licenses for various web services, and helping students and faculty as they need it. We are very happy with our VoiceThread site license-- this isn't so much language learning software so much as a versatile platform for sequencing media-rich activities. You should also explore Yabla (though no Russian, Arabic, or ASL as of yet) as the interface is great for working on listening comprehension skills. For evaluating student speech, you can also check out my pet project, iSpraak for Google Chrome, which now supports 22 languages.

Cheers,

Greetings, Everyone.

I thoroughly enjoyed the IALLT conference in Moorhead, MN and was very impressed with the deep knowledge displayed by the attendees and presenters as well as their willingness to share and offer advice. I hope you can help me with this inquiry.

As part of reviewing our offerings in the lab, I am wondering if we should be offering any kind of language learning or language practice software.

I would like to know if anyone can recommend any language learning software that would work well in a lab setting.

We currently offer courses in ASL, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Russian, and Spanish.

Also, if you have any good or bad experiences in relation to offering this kind of software, I’d love to hear them.

Regards,

Jacob
