Sir Salman Rushdie is the author of twelve novels, including the Booker Prize-winning Midnight’s Children, which has been turned into a movie, directed by Deepa Mehta in 2012, Shame, a memoir titled Joseph Anton, The Satanic Verses, The Ground Beneath Her Feet, and most recently Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights. The Ground Beneath Her Feet, in which the Orpheus myth winds through a story set in the world of rock music, was turned into a song by U2 with lyrics by Salman Rushdie. His newest novel, The Golden House will be published by Random House in September 2017. Among numerous awards, Sir Salman Rushdie was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II In 2007 and has served as President of the PEN American Center.
