I wanted to bring to your attention the Hertz Foundation funding –it was in my RFP announcement list two weeks ago (see below). The fellowship program is for first year PhD students in STEM disciplines at universities on the Hertz list. Can you help me get the word out the different graduate programs so that they can encourage the incoming students to apply for funding? Students who receive Hertz funding will have to petition to have Dartmouth added to the list of participating institutions. Currently Dartmouth is not on their list, but the process to get us added does not seem to onerous; a Hertz Fellowship recipient can petition the Foundation. Additionally, the Foundation told us that someone from the university leadership (Dean of GAS, for example) could also make the case for adding Dartmouth to the list eligible graduate schools (see current list of schools here). For your convenience, I attach a draft of a letter that you could use to send a letter to the foundation. Information about the foundation can be found here: Fannie & John Hertz Foundation — Hertz Graduate Fellowship Full Ph.D. tuition plus personal stipend of up to $38,000 per year. Funding from the next award cycle is for the 2018–2019 academic year. Deadline: October 27, 2017 For incoming and first-year Ph.D. students in the applied physical, biological, and engineering sciences, including applied mathematics, statistics, and quantitative aspects of modern biology. Recently supported fields include: Aeronautics/Astronautics Applied Mathematics and Statistics Applied Physics and Astronomy Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Computer Science and Engineering Earth and Geo Sciences Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Nuclear Engineering Materials Science Quantitative Biology and Bio-Engineering Applicants generally must not have completed their first year of graduate studies. Time in a master’s program counts unless the Ph.D. program is a different field. Second-year students considered in exceptional cases. Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Grantees must pledge they would make their skills available to the United States in time of national emergency. RECIPIENTS WHO ARE APPLYING TO OR ATTENDING DARTMOUTH WILL NEED TO PETITION THE FOUNDATION TO NEGOTIATE AN AGREEMENT WITH DARTMOUTH.
