The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks an Instructional Technology Specialist to manage the Language Lab, part of the re-designed Language Commons (languagecommons.as.virginia.edu). This role will be responsible for maintaining hardware and software in the Lab and training and supporting instructors using the Lab. The Instructional Technology Specialist will also serve as part of the A&S Learning Design & Technology team, which supports the entire College of Arts & Sciences. This position is open until filled.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Must be able to quickly acquire knowledge of the University computing environment and the technical requirements of the language lab, and be able to troubleshoot problems therein. 
-Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information both orally and in writing to a generalist audience. 
-Ability to work in a team-based environment. 
-Well-developed problem solving and critical thinking skills.

-Ability to think creatively in a fast-paced environment.  

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Knowledge of University of Virginia computing environment. 
-Knowledge of SANS software. 
-Interest in world language learning & teaching
. 
-Interest in developing skills and knowledge at the intersection of language teaching and technology
.
-Knowledge of a second language very helpful, but not required
. 
-Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends, a few times per semester
.
