I had a nice walk this morning on the Mink Brook trails in Hanover. I saw my first phoebe of the year, low along the water’s edge. I also flushed a woodcock from a small patch of bare ground along the River Trail, heard a singing Winter Wren, and saw a flyover Great Blue Heron. Waterfowl, most of which were on the river, included Green-winged Teal and a Ring-necked Duck, in addition to the expected Canada Geese, Mallards, American Black Ducks, Wood Ducks, and Hooded Mergansers. Lots of birds were singing on this cool but decidedly springlike morning. I also saw a beaver in the river and lots of bear tracks along the Wheelock Trail.
