Greetings!

We have some great workshops and events coming up at DCAL, here are just a few:

Early Course Evaluations to Improve Learning & Teaching, 12:15pm - 1:30pm, Tuesday, April 11, 2017
Getting student feedback early in the term has many benefits: it can allow you to identify problems that might otherwise be invisible to you and gives you an opportunity to engage your students in a discussion about how things are going. You will learn about different types of midterm evaluations and craft specific questions for your course. This workshop intended only for faculty teaching this term.  This session will be facilitated by Erin DeSilva and Adam Nemeroff (Educational Technologies).
Lunch will be provided, please register here: http://libcal.dartmouth.edu/event/3216857

Promoting Ethical Development in College Students, 12:45pm - 2:00pm, Monday, April 17, 2017
How can professors help their students develop ethical decision-making skills? Join psychologists Thomas and Lori Plante in a discussion of the findings from their recent book, Graduating with Honor: Best Practices to Promote Ethical Development in College Students. Thomas and Lori wrote the book while on sabbatical at the Dartmouth Ethics Institute. Co-sponsored by the Institute for the Study of Applied and Professional Ethics

DCAL Book Club: Connecting in College, 12:45pm - 2:00pm, Friday, April 21, 2017
How do friendships matter socially and academically during college? What can faculty do to facilitate the development of ties that help students succeed? In Janice McCabe’s recent book Connecting in College, she argues that the friendships students form are one of the most overlooked and crucial aspects of college. Examining 82 students’ friendship over 5 years shows how college students form different types of friendship networks (tight-knitters, compartmentalizers, and samplers) and use them in different ways to manage their academic and social lives. In this workshop, Professor McCabe (Sociology) will share ideas for how faculty can help students cultivate friendships with academic benefits. Register by Friday, April 14th to receive a copy of the book.
Lunch will be provided, please register here: http://libcal.dartmouth.edu/event/3216875

Enjoy your day!
