Bringing it Back: Using study abroad experiences to bring intercultural communicative competence (ICC) into U.S. classrooms

Authentic materials are key to supporting intercultural communicative competence (ICC) in our classrooms. A recent study abroad experience to Chile afforded the opportunity to create culturally relevant videos in Spanish. Participants who teach Spanish will be given access to these videos for use in their classrooms, as well as instructional materials to support their use in promoting intercultural communicative competence in their classrooms. Instructors of other languages will hear about how they can use future study abroad opportunities to develop similar materials. Participants will be asked for feedback on the ideas, videos, and instructional materials provided, in order for the researchers to make improvements to future iterations.
