How large? Sounds maybe like a northern harrier. J
I was driving north on Route 5 Sunday afternoon in Thetford, and saw a large bird hunting the fields between the road and Conant Swamp. It was large, flying (flapping) in a straight line in a northerly direction, hunting very low to the ground, maybe 2 feet off the deck. It was dark all over, except for a conspicuous white patch at the base of the tail. It did try and grab something from the field (without stopping) but seemed to come up empty. What did I see?
