Thinking About Being an Industry Scientist? |
Thinking about being an industry scientist? For graduate students and postdocs who choose a career path aimed at the pharmaceutical or software industries, it can come as an unpleasant surprise that these positions are just as elusive as academic ones. It's not uncommon for students going down this route to find themselves at a startup, or to work at one or more postdoctoral positions as they bide their time. Is there a way to shorten the process and make yourself more competitive? When should you start preparing for an industry career? What do hiring managers look for when they screen resumes? What aspects of your graduate career prepare you best for a career in industry? The answers may surprise you. In this talk I will discuss general principles for laying a strong foundation for an industry career, and provide specific examples of practical things that you can do to make yourself more competitive. Presentation by PhD Grad Alum (MCB) Arijit Chakravarty who has over 10 years of experience working in industry. Location: 041 Haldeman, Kemeny Building. Lunch provided. Date: Friday, October 7, 2016 Time: 12:00pm - 1:30pm Location: Campus: Graduate Studies http://libcal.dartmouth.edu/event/2764723
