Hi Folks, the Swarthmore College Language Center is currently looking for a Technologist.  The job primarily supports the Faculty in Modern Languages and Literatures and Film and Media Studies.  The role is likely to evolve to include more work in the College Media Center and with faculty from around the campus.  The job also helps with editing media content for the College web site.

The Language and Media Centers (LMC) at Swarthmore College are two dynamic and flexible learning spaces that support digital initiatives and encourage technological exploration. Our mission is to provide a wide range of technological and traditional resources to enhance and promote the study of foreign language, literature, film, media, arts and culture at Swarthmore College. We pride ourselves on being a locus of innovation on campus and finding creative ways of using and showcasing the use of technology. The Technologist plays a critical role in this and should have a demonstrated talent for creative projects. We collaborate closely with colleagues in Academic Technology, Media Services and the Libraries.  LMC resources support a wide array of disciplines at Swarthmore and enhance College goals directed at preparing students for engaging and contributing to a diverse and global environment.  
 
The Language Center provides access and support to software, hardware and resources for use and loan. The Language Center Technologistengages with faculty to help shape projects and classroom exercises that may take place in the Center or otherwise require training and support.  They are essential in ensuring that the facility supports the needs and aspirations of the students, faculty, and staff who visit the center.  Critical to this is training and engagement with student employees to ensure the highest level of support.
 
The Multimedia Editor plays an essential role in helping the College meet its strategic communications goals by producing and/or editing creative multimedia content for the top levels of the College website and the College’s social media channels. The multimedia editor provides vital support to these efforts, in particular by producing, often on a short turnaround, videos that feature student life and significant campus events, as well as lectures by faculty, alumni, and visiting scholars, and other projects. The editor also contributes to the College’s efforts to preserve these events in the College’s digital archives. Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree plus demonstrated experience with Mac OS X and advanced non-linear video editing such as Premiere, Audacity, and After Effects.  Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
 
Required Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to provide one-on-one instruction and write clear documentation.
• Must have a cheerful disposition for supporting others at all technical skill levels and ongoing interest in learning new technologies and techniques.
• Ability to maintain positive and productive contacts among faculty, staff, and students.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
Preferred:
• Experience with web design, Mobile Devices, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or video production.
• Prior work experience with instructional technology in higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to teach digital media techniques in classroom or workshop settings.
• Knowledge of one of the languages taught at Swarthmore (Russian, French, German, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese)
