Greetings-

Here is a look at workshops taking place at DCAL next week:

Inspiring Inquiry: First-Year Students and the Research Process, 12:00pm - 1:30pm, Tuesday, April 26, 2016
Introducing first-year students to the rigors of academic research is a perennial challenge for instructors, but also a rich source for collaboration among faculty and librarians.  In this session, several pairs of faculty and librarian collaborators will present on the work they do together in first-year writing courses.  A roundtable discussion will follow, giving participants the opportunity to share their own experiences and insights about what works (or what doesn’t) when teaching research to first-year students.  First-year writing faculty and teaching librarians are encouraged to attend, but all are welcome to join in the discussion about teaching students research
Lunch will be provided at the session, please register here: http://libcal.dartmouth.edu/event/2519609

First Responder Training, 12:30pm - 2:00pm, Wednesday, April 27, 2016
What do you say when a student comes to you in crisis? How do you know what to do when someone makes a disclosure to you about sexual assault, dating violence, sexual abuse or stalking? This workshop will provide you with skills you need when responding to a student who has come to you for help. Learn, from a trauma-informed perspective, how to navigate these conversations when they come, including examples of useful language that conveys support, empathy, empowerment and knowledge. Know and understand the available resources on campus, and who is there to best support you to support students looking for help.
Lunch will be provided, please register for this session here: http://libcal.dartmouth.edu/event/2545182

Have a great weekend!
