This is a reminder that, on this coming Saturday, Mascoma Chapter of New Hampshire Audubon is to be holding a birding event in the Champlain Valley.

Last year’s visit to a major migratory stop for Snow Geese on the Lake Champlain flyway produced a tally of over 3,500. Watchers occasionally were treated to wonderful views of the flock spiraling upward creating spectacular white, cloud-like formations. Depending on conditions, expect to see a variety of waterfowl, raptors and perhaps even late migrating shore birds.

This is an all day event. Car poolers will depart at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday November 7, 2015, from the “Park ‘n Ride” lot on the Vermont side of the Ledyard Bridge in Norwich. If coming from Hanover, cross the Ledyard Bridge and take an immediate right turn onto River Road and then take an immediate left turn into the lot which will be our departure point at 7 AM.

This event is free and open to the public. Spencer Hardy will lead. All experience levels are welcome. The walking is level, mainly over paved and dirt roads. Bring binoculars and spotting scopes if available. Dress warmly as wind chill conditions can be quite cool in open areas of the Champlain Valley in November. Packing a lunch and water is recommended. In the unfortunate event of adverse weather conditions the event will be cancelled; however, the advanced forecast at this time is favorable.
