Education in the Innovation Age: Lunch & Dialogue with Ted Dintersmith, Executive Producer 'Most Likely to Succeed'
Monday, November 2 from 12:30 - 2 PM in DCAL

Join us at DCAL for a unique opportunity to dialogue with Ted Dintersmith, Executive Producer of Most Likely to Succeed, a documentary about reforming our education system in what he calls the "innovation age." The film promotes teaching practices aligned with Dartmouth's ongoing tradition of experiential learning and student engagement while raising questions that can further propel us forward. Most Likely to Succeed premiered at Sundance, was accepted at all the major film festivals, and is only available for viewing in community screenings. Dartmouth will host a public screening of the film later in the day. Capacity for this lunch session is limited, so please register if you plan to attend.

Learning IgnitED!
Thursday November 5th from 4 to 5pm in Carson 61

Learning IgnitED is a quarterly session for faculty and campus partners to share stories and ideas about teaching, learning and technology at Dartmouth. Each session features three to four short talks (5-7 minutes each) on topics ranging from the use of technology in your teaching and trying new pedagogies to active and experiential learning and course (re)design projects.  
We are pleased to welcome the following panelists for this term’s event:
  • Robert Cioffi, Classics: Peer feedback
  • Travis Todd, Psychology and Brain Science: Student polling
  • Thomas Jack, Biology: Small groups in large lectures
  • Andrew Faunce and Mike Goudzwaard, ITS: Carson 61 - a new type of learning space
The venue for Learning IgnitED will be Carson 61, our newly designed active learning classroom, which has been optimized for teamwork and small group activities. Following Learning IgnitED, please also join us at First Thursdays in the Arts and Humanities Resource Center (AHRC, 2nd Floor Bartlett Hall)  for fine meats and cheeses, wine, and conversation about research, teaching, and technology.


The 9th Annual Active Learning Institute (ALI)

December 9 & 10, 2015 -- 9:00am-4:00pm, both days



The Active Learning Institute (ALI) helps you develop and implement evidence-based teaching strategies in your courses that will engage students, deepen their learning and make your teaching more efficient, effective and enjoyable.

By the end of the ALI participants will able to

Active Learning principles are shared with a companion program, the Librarians Active Learning Institute at Dartmouth.

Participants will receive a $500 stipend for full participation in the two-day institute. Anyone holding a faculty teaching appointment at Dartmouth at any rank (Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Tuck, Geisel) is eligible to apply.

To apply for the institute, please complete the online application by October 31, 2015.

The ALI planning committee reads every application and selects a cohort of participants based on the following criteria:
