TODAY IN ADVENTURE The Czech Locomotive On October 26th (that’s today!), 1952, the famed Czechoslovakian long distance runner, Emil Zatopek, broke two world records, the 25,000-meter and the 30,000-meter runs. Zatopek was not only one of the world’s greatest long distance runners, but his distinctive style also garnered a lot of attention. His torso would swing from side to side over his hips, and his head would often roll about on his shoulders as he made terrible wheezing and gasping noises. His idiosyncratic style earned him the nickname, the "Czech Locomotive."
