Hi, Folks:

Thanks for all of your help getting through our busiest week of the summer! We're finally in the home stretch, and just have one concert and one parade left on our schedule. Tonight's message is about our Wednesday concert in Hartford, and I'll e-mail about our Saturday activities later this week. But before I get to the concert info, I wanted to share a message from one of our members.

Those of you who participated in Friday's concert in Enfield are aware that one of our members, Nancy White, was in attendance. Nancy brought along a cell-phone so that Doris Finnegan, a longtime supporter of UVCB, could hear us play 'Colonel Bogey March'. Here's what Nancy had to say about Friday night:

"I am writing to you in hopes that you can convey my gratitude to the band for their kindness at the concert Friday night in Enfield.  I don’t know whose idea it was to shout out “We Love you Doris” but it was one of the most touching moments of my life.  Unfortunately, Doris did not hear those words over the phone. I thought she did until I got home.  She did hear the band play Colonel Bogey and said she felt like she was there....which was the goal of using the cell phone.  When I told her about the “shout out” even her Hospice volunteer had tears in her eyes.  Everyone I have told since has thought it was a thoughtful and caring thing to do.  A couple of the Lioness members said they thought it must be great to be able first, to play music and secondly be in a group with such camaraderie.  I assured them it was!  They said they could not only see it be feel it.  There is a quote that I once heard that says “kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see”.   I now know that it is also what the dying can feel.  Please thank the band for me.    Nancy"

On Wednesday evening, we're playing a concert in Lyman Point Park in White River Junction, VT. This is part of the Hartford Parks & Recreation Summer Concert Series, and the concert begins at 6:30 PM. Remember, that's a START TIME of 6:30, so please arrive by 6:00 PM if possible.

We are playing on the stage, and we'll need our mike and amp. We also need to bring our own chairs, as Hartford doesn't have enough for us. Stands will be available for those who need to borrow one, or you are welcome to bring your own. Light blue band shirts and khaki pants, please.

DIRECTIONS:
GPS: 167 Maple Street, White River Junction, VT or Hartford Municipal Building.

Take I-89 to I-91 North. Go to Exit 11 (WRJ-Route 5).
At the bottom of the ramp go straight.
McDonald's will be on your right, as well as a Mobil/bus station.
Go through the first set of lights and continue straight down the hill.
Continue straight through the blinking light.
Take the left over the bridge at the next set of working lights (Bugbee Senior Center will be on your right).
At the end of the bridge take a right.
The new Co-op food market will be on your left.
Go straight through the next set of lights and then take an immediate right into the parking lot of the Hartford Municipal Building. If you go through the underpass and see a Listen store on your right, you've gone too far and are about to cross the river into New Hampshire.

The bandstand is to the left and slightly in back of the Municipal Building. There's construction going on in this part of town, so be prepared for a little dust and dirt near the parking lot. So far it looks like clear weather. I'll provide an update if that starts to look iffy.

Let me know if you have any questions, and hope to see you Wednesday night!
