Hey Zack,
So my friend on the cycling team said she would sell her bike to me for $250. It’s the one I used for the race. Do you think that is a good deal? I think she got it in 2007.

I am thinking of buying it.

If you're looking for a great bike under $1000, you may be in luck!
See my analysis and the original message from the cycling team below:

-2003 is on the older side for a frame, but frame can last if it hasn't been abused.
-dura ace components are fantastic, provided they aren't heavily worn (<1000 miles since they were replaced is a good rule of thumb)
-titanium is between aluminum (standard) and carbon (ultra-light)
-51cm is good for someone about my height (I think I may ride 52, I forget, but either way it's close)
-if interested, I'd ask Britton about wear and then making a counter offer within your budget or asking for a sense of how much he'd be willing to come down on price, as he says he's understanding of student budget constraints. I'd just emphasize that it'll go to good use for someone who'll appreciate having a nice bike. As long as you're careful not to come across insulting, the worst thing that happens from offering too little is you get a clear idea of how much the seller is actually willing to come down, which isn't so bad after-all.

Also feel free to reach out to me with any further questions about bikes, components, & buying used in general.

Best,
Zach

Hello all, just passing this along if you’re looking for a used bike. Contact Britton if you’re interested!

Info and pics below:

Hi David-

It is a Lemond Tete de Course, 2003. 51cm frame, Dura Ace components. Attached are a bunch of photos, including geometry.
It was built for Team Saturn, subsequently owned by a guy in NYC who we bought the bike from. It has been well taken care of and rides well. We’re asking $1000 and will certainly come down if the right buyer shows up - student budgets taken into account.

Thanks for facilitating!

-Britton
