Post-Doctoral Position at the University of Tübingen

Faculty of Humanities, Institute of Prehistory, Protohistory and Medieval Archaeology

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Tübingen invites applications for the position of a Post-Doctoral Researcher, specialising in the field of organic residue analysis.

The chosen candidate will be part of a team of archaeologists and curators working on a project titled Meanings and Functions of Mediterranean Imports in Early Iron Age Central Europe, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF). The project aims to conduct a comprehensive contextual and scientific evaluation on transformations in the use of imported Mediterranean ceramic and bronze vessels found in Early Celtic sites in Central Europe. 

Applicants must be in possession of a PhD in a related discipline at the time of application. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the analysis of ancient lipid residues. Excellent laboratory skills and a good working knowledge of Gas Chromatography and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry are essential. Ability to work as part of a team and independently is required, coupled with excellent communication and organisational skills.

The appointment will be for three years, starting around March 2015. The salary is equivalent to TVL 13, according to the German Public Service Scale.
