Subject: A Post-Graduate Fellowship Opportunity

Dear Friends,

I'm a Dartmouth '13, Disability Advocate, Filmmaker, and Social Entrepreneur looking for graduating seniors who might be interested in being a part of the founding team for a start-up non-profit in Boston.  The concept for this organization, see below, stems from my own spinal cord injury 9 years ago in India and the ensuing years volunteering in Delhi as a peer-mentor.  To learn about my previous work, visit www.escip.org - Empowering Spinal Cord Injured Persons.  I appreciate all efforts to make this opportunity known to potentially interested students.

Many Cheers!

Mobile Mentors - Improving Global Access to Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation

The Problem

Globally, 250,000 to 500,000, mostly young adults, suffer a spinal cord injury (SCI) every year. Neither the specialized knowledge nor even the vision of independent living is available to those in the developing world.  In the U.S., decreased inpatient periods mean fewer discharged patients with the skills to live independently at home. Nearly 90% of all Americans living with SCI have been treated in non-specialized hospitals, with decreased access to peer support vital for community reintegration.

Our Solution

Mobile Mentors recruits independent SCI peer mentors, as well as experienced therapists, to share their expertise through an online curriculum of professional protocols, demonstration videos, and live-chat. Because each vertebral level of SCI from C1 to S5 causes predictable degrees of paralysis, we crowd-source rehabilitation experiences and techniques from individuals with all levels of injury to provide level specific strategies and peer-support to users.

Your Fellowship

Work with a small and committed group of SCI mentors and therapists to launch the Mobile Mentors initiative into a sustainable U.S. based non-profit designed for global impact. As a member of the founding team, you will assist in a broad range of activities as per your interest and skillset, including publicity, SEO, data management, volunteer coordination, market research, product marketing, and financial planning.
