Here are a few events happening at DCAL this week and next:

Teaching Science Seminar, Thursday January 8th, 12-1:30pm
Kevin Shea, a Professor of Chemistry at Smith College, will talk about his use of pre-class videos and second-generation audience response technologies in his Organic Chemistry classes.  Professor Shea will also share how students respond to these classroom experiments, and how these approaches affect student learning.

Faculty Voice Group, Thursdays, 4:15 to 6pm starting January 15th
The Faculty Voice Group has been helping faculty, new and old, to improve their speaking voice and presence in the classroom, for lecturing and for leading discussions effectively. Relaxation, vocal expressiveness and strength, confidence, and finding the enjoyment in speaking are just some of the areas explored. James Rice (Theater) leads this group; you may contact Professor Rice for additional information. Sessions meet weekly through Mid-March.

The Implications of Ferguson for Teaching, Friday January 16th, 12-2pm
Reverend Starsky Wilson (president and CEO of Deaconess Foundation, St Louis, MO) will talk about Ferguson and his work in St Louis, and then lead a discussion with faculty. Rev. Wilson was recently selected by Missouri Governor, Jeremiah Nixon, to co-chair the Ferguson Commission, created to study and make specific recommendations for how to make progress on the issues raised by events in Ferguson. Carolyn Dever (Provost) and Bruce Duthu (native American Studies) will co-facilitate.  Co-sponsored by DCAL and The Tucker Foundation.
