Aptech Chooses the Sony Virtuoso™ Platform for its Language Lab

Thursday, July 31, 2014

Report by India Education bureau, Mumbai: Aptech Limited, a global leader in learning solutions, announced today that it has selected the Sony Virtuoso Language Lab software from SANS Inc. for its Aptech English centers. SANS Inc. is the global developer and exclusive licensor of Sony Language Learning Software.  The Digital Language Lab is a unique concept used to give students a hands-on, interactive learning experience. The lab will enable the Aptech English students to practice and master the language through the use of its many innovative tools. It engages students in the four basic principles for acquiring proficiency in any language – Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.

Laying immense emphasis on the infrastructure and methodology of learning, Aptech English provides a variety of tools for their students, including Learner’s Kits with specialized audio guides; the Sony Virtuoso lab, which is used globally, will bring another effective tool to the suite.  Aptech English Learning Academy uses top-notch multimedia learning modules to give learners opportunities to build proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English with a focus on vocabulary and grammar. The programs and courses have been designed to align with the Common European Framework by Middlesex University London.

The course for beginners stresses the ability to speak and communicate in day-to-day situations; students learn basic vocabulary including colors, shapes and numbers, and simple functions, such as telling the time and giving directions.  In the Pre-intermediate course, students build on the foundation laid in Beginners by improving their reading and listening skills and ability to converse and write on familiar topics, such as work, weekends, sport and food.  Students also build on their basic grammar knowledge by improving their grasp of tenses and parts of speech.  The intermediate level course, ’30 Day English’ takes students on to more abstract topics, such as politics, money and consumers and introduces them to a higher level of vocabulary and grammar, including phrasal verbs, collocation and idioms. The Business Communication course, at Upper-Intermediate or B2, covers a wide range of work-related themes from report writing, CVs and interviews to the fiscal health of a company and industrial action.  Like the other courses, grammar is integrated into the units at an appropriate level; in this case that includes the passive voice, indirect questions and relative clauses.

Aptech has a strong presence in emerging markets and the choice of the Sony Virtuoso technology as a 21st century learning tool will benefit young English learners in these markets. In this age of global networking, English has emerged as a universal means of communication. It is the language of the world, of business and of politics; the language of our digital age. In the modern economy, knowledge of English is a basic necessary skill necessary for employees of a company. The importance of English as a tool for development and advancement has never been more evident.

Pravir Arora, Executive Vice President, International & Enterprise Business, Aptech Limited shared his opinion that, “While language and communication play a large role in globalization, they also establish unity in society and help pave the path towards progress and learning. It is important for India, as a developing country, to capitalize on the power of English and catapult ourselves on to the global arena. Aptech aims to ensure that students from all backgrounds are given the opportunity and ability to find a job and present themselves confidently in an English speaking world and become proud members of a global economy.”
