Re: [UVB] Whip-Poor-Wills Well no longer in my experience, of summers spent in Wareham near the Cape. I grew up with their singing late at night to dawn. People have since suburbanized the environment, vacuuming the understories of their woods to look like parkland, and the Whip-Poor-Wills disappeared about 25 years ago, if not longer, followed by the Bob Whites a decade later (and Woodcock). First and only time I’ve heard a Whip-Poor-Will in Vermont was about 8 years ago near the Strafford Town House. Thrilled to hear it after years not. Ian

I found a nest near the Merrimack River in Hooksett in 2012. I went back several times during my snake-surveys and followed the development and dispersal of the 2 chicks. Until 1992, they nested in Blood Brook Valley in West Fairlee. We'd leave the porch light on my studio and watch them pickoff the moths we chummed in. They often perched on the house and called incessantly. Whippoorwills are quite common on in the pine barrens of LI & the Cape.

Curious to know how many people out there have actually SEEN a Whip-Poor-Will?
