Black bears are out and about & they are hungry. I live on Greensboro Road
in Hanover and Saturday night the hen pen fence was crushed, the henhouse
siding attacked, the door ripped open and three laying hens killed/eaten.
Yesterday at work I talked with an Etna resident who lost seven hens to
bear Sunday night. Today I heard about another Etna hen loss. If anyone
else has had similar damage, please report it to NH Fish and Game by
calling 603-223-6832. They have suggestions for minimizing the possibility
of bear attacks--including reminding residents that keeping a bird feeder
up after April 1st can be inviting trouble.
