Actually, if it cannot find a qualifying prior version on the hard drive, the FMP installer will request the License Code and related info for a qualifying prior version.  That is what happened when I recently installed FMPA 12 on a new computer that had no prior version installed.

I currently run v10 on an old MacBook Pro that I am going to replace with a new one next month. I see that v13 is coming out and that I can upgrade from v10. My question is, if I buy v13 upgrade and install it on the new computer, can I use my license key from v10 to activate v13 without having v10 installed on the new computer?

Sorry for the simple question, but I haven't been able to find the answer elsewhere.

Thanks,

No, in order to qualify for upgrade pricing, the upgrade installer must search for AND FIND an older qualifying copy of FileMaker Pro ON THE SAME HARD DRIVE that you're trying to install the new one on. However, getting the old copy there should be a fairly straightforward task, since you'll want to move all of your old files — including programs — over from your old computer to your new one when you upgrade your hardware. But be sure that your old FMP v10 makes the journey along with everything else.
