Dear Adventurous Spirit,

This January, after a one-year hiatus, the Winter Sports Club will be leading its annual trip to
Mount Katahdin--the highest point in Maine and the northern terminus of the Appalachian
Trail. The trip will be 5.5 days long, including a two-day uphill approach on
skis and snowshoes, two potential summit days, and one big ski down.  The mountain
itself (5,268 feet) is known for its challenging and sub-zero winter conditions, remoteness,
and beauty.  We will be towing all of our camping and climbing gear on sweet Walmart
sleds as we go, and sleeping in lean-tos.  The trip will be physically demanding
but highly rewarding.

The group will leave Wednesday evening, Jan 15th and return late the following Monday
Jan 20th.  (Dartmouth has January 20th off for Martin Luther King Day, but you will
have to miss all classes on Thursday and Friday in order to participate.)

Because this trip will be very expensive and heavily subsidized by the DOC, we
must limit the size of the group to 10.  If you are interested in going (that
means you too, '17s), please fill out the attached application.  We will select
a team that will work well together and have good chances for a strong, safe trip.

THE ATTACHED APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY 11:59 PM, MONDAY NOV. 18.
Blitz your application to "[log in to unmask]".
We will hopefully be finished making decisions before the start of finals on the 22nd.

I, Ari Koeppel '15, along with Reed Wommack '14 and Peter Governali '15 will be leading this trip,
and feel free to email any of us with any questions or thoughts.
This trip should be a blast, and we are looking forward to seeing all of you outside this winter!

Cohaereamus,
Peter, Reed and Ari
