I saw the cuckoo I reported yesterday after a prolonged, stealthy search as it called from the same place . I've had Black-billed every year about this time on my property and every year they have made a soft three series "cu-cu-cu-coo......cu-cu-cu-coo.......cu-cu-cu-coo" This one is still making a louder series of calls in which the notes are more spaced and louder and get even louder toward the end with no sense of there being three phrases. I was disappointed when I saw that the bird was a Black-billed Cuckoo, not a Yellow-billed as I reported yesterday. I listened to more recordings and found an alternate Black-billed call that sounds similar to this one, but also sounds quite like the familiar Yellow-billed. Sorry I was too quick to turn this into a Yellow-billed Cuckoo!
