When: ~7pm Friday – ~1pm Saturday Leader: Matt Pickart; Co-lead: Fredrik Eriksson Why: Because Fredrik is soon a teenager no more, and wants to have a final shot as such crazy sh*t as playing card games, going to bed early, sleeping in a cabin, and getting up before sunrise to hike a mountain! A nice, 4-ish mile roundtrip moonlight(+headlamp) hike to a firetower to see the sunrise awaits on Saturday morning. There will also be a hike (~1 mile) from the van to the cabin itself. What: Experimental Baking at Armington Cabin When: Friday 5pm - Saturday morning Leader: Juan Sanchez Why: The Armington wood stove has kept warm many pots of chili, hydrated countless dehydrated bean powder mixes, boiled pots of water for hot chocolate... But it has never baked a glorious loaf of homemade bread! We'll do our best to make this happen, and also bake some state-of-the-art 21st century Pilsbury pastries to compare and contrast the changing ways we nom on carbohydrates. Very laid back evening in a cabin guaranteed. We'll wake up in the morning and drive back to campus. This trip features the Cabin aspect of Cabin and Trail. Some of your fellow musically-inclined students will be jamming with them, and there will certainly be some dancing. We'll be cooking chili and cornbread for the event all-day Sunday (location TBD), and we'd love some help! Cost: TBD, but dinner on Monday night may cost around $3 or $4, depending on the DOC budget. Blitz: Jocelyn Powelson if you're interested in helping to cook on Sunday FUTURE FUTURE FUTURE What: Vertical Challenge! When: all of Spring Term Leaders: you! Why: Encourage healthy DOC sub-club competition. The Vertical Challenge is an (almost) annual spring term contest in which DOC subclubs get points for leading trips. Points are calculated depending on miles traveled and vertical elevation gained/dropped while hiking, kayaking, climbing, etc. and depending on difficulty of the activity/weather/a few other factors. We would love to have an enthusiastic person to help keep track of points and keep the challenge alive. Award: Eternal glory for the organizer and for whichever subclub wins Blitz: Jocelyn Powelson if you would like to help organize this awesome inter-subclub activity ********************************** If you're not a DOC member, BECOME a DOC member. $20 for an annual membership (memberships run from July 1 - June 30) or $50 for a student career membership (which expires June 30 of the year you graduate). Contact Julie Bell to sign up. Fees for trips as a DOC member are much less, and sometimes free.
