http://www.bryantgrinder.com/careers_4_4010213042.pdf CHIEF ENGINEER Bryant Grinder, a 103-year-old manufacturer of ultra-precision grinding machines, is looking for an experienced, hands-on Chief Mechanical Engineer with project management experience to oversee and manage engineering staff, and conceptualize, design, evaluate and detail state-of-the-art, high-precision machine tools, new and/or remanufactured, grinding machine spindles, hydrostatic way systems, and other machine tool components to meet customer requirements for machine process, performance and safety. Candidates will have proven engineering and project management experience, with a focus in grinding machine application and design, and be able to analyze machine functions and parts to design or redesign replacement parts and assemblies. Research and specify components to build such systems and parts meeting safety criteria and specifications. Create designs for parts that are simple, robust, reliable and require minimal maintenance, and provide for operator safety. Oversee and manage all engineering and manufacturing projects from inception through completion, in conjunction with the sales team and shop foreman, including assist with machine teardown and evaluation as required. Coordinate and manage project leaders and other designers to assure design, time and financial objectives are met. Maintain complete and accurate engineering drawing files and bills of material. Write instruction manuals as required by company standard operating procedures. As needed, interface with customers, work with shop foreman and assembly technicians to provide technical assistance, resolve technical questions, make engineering design changes to facilitate machine assembly and function. Assist with start-up and try-out of machines prior to shipment. Production and process knowledge required. Using CAD programs perform theoretical and concept modeling, conceptualize machine design and application, machine component stress analysis. Should be familiar with grinding machine theory, electro-mechanical design and CNC operational theory, with an innovative approach to problem-solving. The Chief Mechanical Engineer is responsible for profit and loss for engineering and manufacturing. Applicants should have background in machine tool design / application. Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally (or in writing) and through drawings to work with in-house manufacturing and sub-contractors to produce accurate finished machine components. Must be able to manage projects from inception through completion. Applicants should be highly detail oriented and organized. Must be able to travel within the U.S. and internationally at the request of the company (travel is usually less than 10% of the job). Degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent in mechanical engineering and project management experience, with a focus in machine tool design / application.
