The Language Learning and Research Center at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook NY invites applications for a Technical Director to begin Spring 2013. We welcome applicants who are willing to meet the technical, educational, and scholarly challenges in the digital age and to join us in imagining and experimenting with the powers and possibilities in language learning, language teaching, and language research. In addition to a sound knowledge of rapidly evolving technology (computers, computer languages, software, telecommunications, networks etc.), we seek a colleague who has a vision, a vision that is grounded in his/her technological expertise and guided by a deep commitment to the future of language education and research.

Main responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, advising, guiding and implementing the technological needs of the Center so that it fulfills its service, teaching and research missions. S/he will create and maintain the LLRC web page and is expected to work on grant writing including identifying outside funding sources.

Required qualifications: Master's degree in a field relevant to Language Centers including English as a Second Language, Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language and Instructional Technology. Native or native-like fluency in English. Four (4) years of full-time directly related experience. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of language learning methodology and pedagogy, have strong management skills, and the ability to work independently.  Must have a broad background in instructional technology and its applications to language learning and teaching. Must have experience with webpage creation and maintenance, digital video recording, PCs and Macs.

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. in field relevant to Language Centers. Experience with HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, digital media and digital content management. Experience with grant writing and identifying outside funding sources. Published research in language and instructional technology. Fluency in at least one language other than English. Experience in language teaching. Experience with budgeting, accounting and financial management. Experience in staff supervision and training. Involvement in professional organizations such as IALLT, ACTFL, etc.
