This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, August 15th, 2012. 2 MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen near Gonet Road in Newmarket during the past week, 22 GREAT EGRETS, 19 SNOWY EGRETS, a GREEN HERON, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, a GLOSSY IBIS, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 2 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 2 LAUGHING GULLS, a LEAST TERN, over 25 ROSEATE TERNS, and 225 COMMON TERNS were all reported from the coast on August 12th. A RED CROSSBILL was reported from Pittsfield on August 10th. An UPLAND SANDPIPER was reported from Pease International Tradeport on the 12th. A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from Moss Hill Road in Boscawen on August 8th, 1 was reported from Epping on the 11th and 1 was reported from Durham on the 12th. 2 FISH CROWS were reported from Durham on August 10th. 4 RED-NECKED GREBES were seen on the Connecticut River in Westmoreland on August 12th. A MERLIN was seen in Sugar Hill on August 13th. 3 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were reported from Lempster, and 5 were seen in Wentworth’s Location, all during the past week. A GREAT EGRET was seen in Hollis on August 13th. 6 GREEN HERONS and 5 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS were reported from one location in Salem on August 11th. A birder on a Whale Watch out of Rye reported several CORY’S SHEARWATERS, a few MANX SHEARWATERS, many GREAT SHEARWATERS, a possible LEACH’S STORM-PETREL, and many WILSON’S STORM-PETRELS in NH and MA waters.
