This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, August 8th, 2012. An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen in Aucomin Marsh in Rye on August 8th. A LEAST TERN, 35 ROSEATE TERNS, and a RED KNOT were seen in Hampton Harbor on August 5th. A RUDDY TURNSTONE, a SANDERLING, and 10 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were reported from Powder Mill Pond in Hancock on August 5th. 2 RUDDY TURNSTONES were seen in Plaice Cove in Hampton on August 8th. 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen in Hampton Marsh on August 5th. 2 WHIMBRELS were seen on the coast in Hampton on August 5th. 31 GREAT EGRETS and 20 SNOWY EGRETS were seen in Hampton Harbor on August 8th. A GREAT EGRET and 3 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were seen in the pond at New Hampshire Audubon's Ponemah Bog Sanctuary in Amherst on August 5th. 2 GREAT EGRETS were seen in Horseshoe Pond in Concord on August 8th. 10 BLACK SCOTERS were seen off the coast of Rye on August 5th. A few WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were reported from Freedom, Effingham, and Pittsfield, and 4 RED CROSSBILLS were reported from Freedom, all during the past week. A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was heard in Durham on August 6th. 3 FISH CROWS were reported from Durham on August 3rd. An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen in Rumney on August 2nd. 2 MERLINS were seen in Rumney on August 3rd. A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Concord on August 3rd, and 1 was seen in Hampton on the 5th. A SOOTY SHEARWATER, 4 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 42 GREAT SHEARWATERS, 6 NORTHERN GANNETS, 436 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, 2 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, and a CHIPPING SPARROW were reported by birders on a whale-watch cruise out of Rye on July 31st in NH, ME, and MA waters.
