For nearly 30 years Vermont bird watchers dutifully sent in their sightings each season to the Records of Vermont Birds, a project hosted at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science. A corps of dedicated volunteers assembled the information into a statewide summary each season that was printed and mailed to birders. For the first time all of these reports are now available on-line!

All of the original records were archived in boxes for the historical record.  The 30 years of data undoubtedly hold many conservation and scientific discoveries, but the lack of a computer database for retrieval of these data has proven to be a roadblock to examining them for years, not to mention the inability to save these records in event of a catastrophe such as fire or flood. The Vermont Institute of Natural Science joined other Vermont eBird affiliates and provided us with all of the Records of Vermont Birds historic data to be entered into the Vermont eBird database.

We need your help!

There is a vast amount of data to be entered and without a corp of volunteers we can't possibly do it. Thankfully, Vermont eBird has a data uploading system. The data is easily entered on a special Excel spreadsheet on any computer allowing us to upload it using a special system in eBird. There’s really no experience necessary.
