Dear Colleagues:
Please join us on March 23 and 24 at Arizona State University in sunny Tempe for the 2012 Southwest Association for Language Learning and Technology (SWALLT) Conference. This year's conference theme is "Language Learning Centers and Internationalization: Supporting Global Connections". For a regional conference, this event is shaping up to be decidedly non-regional, with presenters coming from Hong Kong, Japan, and Canada in addition to institutions on the East Coast and in the Midwest.
We're particularly pleased to announce SWALLT 2012's keynote presentation by the recent Past President of the International Association for Language Learning Technology (IALLT), Barbara Sawhill of Oberlin College, entitled "Language Instruction in Liminal Spaces". This address will discuss the need to create language courses that break with the longstanding vertical, literature-based curricular paradigm, and explore new types of learning outcomes, determiners of student success and the metrics by which we gauge language proficiency.
We look forward to seeing you soon in the beautiful desert Southwest!
