Proposals should be sent to [log in to unmask] Regards, Ed Brave new classroom and the future of distance and online learning of German The concept of distance learning and online teaching is increasingly gaining the interest of both teachers and administrators on college and university campuses as well as in many school districts. In this session we will examine some of the reasons for and arguments against teaching elementary, intermediate and advanced German courses online. We will also compare online courses with their face-to-face (F2F) counterparts with respect to: * the development of new literacies * curriculum, methods and theories * the development of interpersonal, interpretive and presentational competence * the development of linguistic and intercultural knowledge * authenticity * assessments and learner outcomes * articulation * proficiency * benefits and disadvantages * the classroom environment, new technologies and the Internet In addition to evaluating the online classroom within the context of the above categories, we will also consider innovative uses of technology designed to enhance the learner?s experience in the F2F classroom.
