Or write a macro. Oh no! ;-) The degree sign, Alan D? Are you sure that will appear correctly if the text is viewed on Another Platform? I would have thought it safer to use a more common feature like an asterisk at he beginning and the end of he italics -- that will always appear, regardess of platform, browser, etc. -- and it will also add an air of emphasis that a degree sigh wouldn't.
