Spring into spring with a bird walk in Norwich on Saturday March 27, 2010! (Repeat announcement on UVB) Meet at 8:00 AM in the parking lot by the south end of River Road in Norwich (details below). George Clark will lead a leisurely birding trip, the third in the Norwich 2010 Birding Quest series. Be prepared to walk on mostly level, but possibly damp, ground in the vicinity of Foley Park for about an hour. Dress warmly and bring binoculars if available. Because the site is alongside the Connecticut River, spotting scopes may be useful. Children are welcome with an accompanying adult. This walk is free and open to both Norwich residents and others. The walk will take place regardless of weather conditions, but be aware that poor weather would likely reduce the chances of seeing many birds. The goal of the Norwich 2010 Birding Quest <http://www.vtecostudies.org/quest/ > is to find and identify as many kinds of birds as possible from Norwich during calendar year 2010. Join the fun and learn more about the Quest on this walk. A challenge on this walk will be to find early spring migrants, some of which, including a variety of waterbirds, have already returned to Norwich. Road Instructions: From Exit 13 off I-91 in Norwich, VT, turn as though driving to Hanover, NH, but shortly before the Ledyard Bridge (which crosses the river) move into the left turning lane for a left turn onto River Road. Once on River Road, take the first possible left turn into an unpaved parking lot, the starting point for this walk. If coming from Hanover, cross the Ledyard Bridge into Norwich, take the first right onto River Road, and then the immediate first left into the parking lot.
