Thanks for all the excellent comments on sound editing programs (what
is it about audio, even in 0's and 1's that warm the cockles of a
language center director's heart?)

While online recorders will never give you the quality or editing
capabilities of dedicated tools like Audacity, or Dartmouth's
excellent two-track DL Recorder, they do make management and access so
much easier (assuming an internet connection).

Besides all the excellent commercial options, there's CLEAR's diverse
array of media options in Rich Internet Applications (http://clear.msu.edu/teaching/online/ria/
), and our own, more course-oriented set of speech tools in ANVILL (http://anvill.uoregon.edu
).

Ideally, teachers should be able to use both approaches, opting for
one or the other depending on the task.
