Yesterday at about noon, I spent 15-20 minutes watching the Orchard Oriole nest at Ledyard Bridge. Both adults are feeding young in the nest, which is easily visible from the railroad overpass, to the south on the west side of the tracks. It is also < 15 feet from an active Baltimore Oriole nest, though I never saw adults bringing food to that nest. At one point I had both males within 2 feet of one another on the same branch, with no aggression whatsoever. The Baltimore is a full adult, the Orchard a yearling. The Orchard male has no qualms about approaching the nest with an observer at close range, while I had to back up > 50 feet along the sidewalk (behind the yellow sign for River Road) before the female would deliver her food to the nestlings.
