Dear LLTIers, The Language Resource Center (LRC) at Brown University seeks to hire a Manager of Technical Services, to start in January 2009. This position is responsible for managing the installation, maintenance and inventory of all computer hardware and software assets, AV and classroom equipment used in the LRC. The incumbent will develop and implement new server-based resources for language and culture instruction in the world languages taught at Brown, administer LRC servers, and establish policies and procedures for user access and permissions, regular updates, necessary services and data backup. This person is responsible for the development, management and coordination of use of the LRC's Development Lab. He or she will serve as Departmental Computing Coordinator (DCC) to faculty and staff in the Center for Language Studies (CLS) and LRC professional staff, as well as a technical resource and advisor on language-related issues to DCCs in associated departments and centers. He or she will support language faculty projects involving technology, including development and maintenance. The successful candidate will: * possess current knowledge of technological developments in second-language instruction, particularly related to network- and Web-based resources and multimedia. * have experience with multiple platforms (Windows, Apple OS, Linux) in both server and client implementations. * demonstrate ability to collaborate effectively with a varied user base including faculty, staff and student employees. * be familiar with current issues in language, literature and culture instruction at post-secondary institutions. * hold an earned BA/BS in a field related to technology, linguistics, language and literature or equivalent combination of education and experience; MA/MS or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. * possess excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to understand and present complex technical issues to a non-technical audience. * be able to work independently and proactively; work effectively in a group and as a member of a project team. * have 2-3 years experience in academic computing support. * possess excellent project planning and customer service skills.
