I joined several volunteers last night (8/27/08) near the state capital building in Concord to watch for COMMON NIGHTHAWKS (CONIs). A distant group of high-flying foraging CONIs was spotted immediately. They foraged northeast of the Merrimack River (and our location) until 7:30, moving closer and farther away, but in the same general area. At one point 3 CONIs were seen to our west, migrating south. At 7:30 pm the large group of 167 CONIs headed west en masse and out of sight. At about 7:45 pm a single CONI flew in from the east and began peenting and booming over the Concord Public Library - it is assumed that this is the same male that has been displaying at this location all summer. He displayed for at least 30 minutes.
