Martin- I see this quite often. They are hunting the small mammals that dine on the waste see under the feeder. Last year I had an owl sitting right ontop of my feeder! Strafford last night and was surprised when a very large bird silently flew off into the night. Returned with a flashlight and saw a barred owl sitting in a nearby pine. I've never seen an owl at a feeder before. Perhaps it was snacking on the suet? M.
