Based in B.U.'s newly reorganized departments of Romance Studies and Modern Languages & Comparative Literature, the Director will provide guidance to the College of Arts and Sciences on a range of issues including curriculum development, less commonly taught languages, placement and assessment, the adoption of language-learning technologies, instructional training for graduate students and faculty, professional development of language instructors, and the advancement of collaborations with other international programs of B.U. on the Boston campus and in 34 cities around the globe. Successful candidates will have expertise in several of these areas; a Ph.D. in a relevant field; native or near-native fluency in English and at least one other language; and a record of excellence in teaching and research that merits appointment with tenure. Preference will be given to candidates with at least five years' experience in academic administration.
